It opens up to almost anyone once the itinerary is chosen well; a short climb is often enough to leave the crowds, the queues and the tracked-out snow behind entirely. A day of ski touring starts with the climb — on skins, at a pace suited to your fitness and experience — before the reward: a descent on snow no lift has touched. Itineraries range from short, approachable climbs well suited to a first outing, to longer days for those with more experience in the mountains.
No previous touring experience is required for most itineraries; a good level of general fitness and comfort skiing off-piste is what matters most. Your instructor chooses the itinerary and, on the day, adjusts it to snow conditions and group pace.
